About this game

Saints Row IV never pretended to be anything other than a power fantasy on steroids, and this bundle wraps that game together with its own follow-up joke of an expansion. You start as the leader of the 3rd Street Saints, now somehow President of the United States, and within minutes an alien warlord named Zinyak has kidnapped your entire cabinet and stuffed everyone into a simulated reality. From there it’s superpowers, absurd set pieces, and a plot that treats “too much” as a design goal rather than a warning sign. Gat out of Hell tacks on an epilogue where Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington head into Hell itself to rescue the Boss’s soul, because naturally that’s where the story goes next.

How it plays

This is still an open-world action game at heart, but the simulation setting gives High Voltage license to throw out any pretense of realism. You’re fighting Zinyak’s forces and trying to claw back control of the simulation while your abducted allies deal with their own twisted scenarios inside it. Gat out of Hell keeps the open-world structure but reframes it around a literal tour of the underworld, complete with historical figures showing up as characters and, based on the description, at least one full musical number played completely straight. It’s less about tight combat systems and more about giving you room to cause chaos and see what ridiculous idea the writers commit to next.
