Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy takes a well-worn cast of Marvel misfits and builds a game specifically around what makes them fun to be around: they bicker, they screw up, they occasionally save the universe by accident. You play Star-Lord, jet boots and all, in a story campaign that doesn’t lean on any movie continuity. It’s Eidos-Montreal doing a straight-up narrative action game, built around a threat Star-Lord himself sets loose, which is a nice bit of characterization in itself.

How it plays

This is third-person action-adventure territory: you’re Star-Lord in combat, mixing his blasters with jet-boot mobility, while the rest of the Guardians fight alongside you as AI-controlled teammates you can direct. The framing throughout is that you’re the one calling the shots, both in fights and in the quieter moments between them, so a lot of the game’s identity comes from managing that chaotic team dynamic rather than just shooting things yourself. Combat looks built around keeping fights loud and kinetic, hopping between enemies while your squad does its own thing around you, and the story structure seems to lean on set-piece encounters strung together rather than an open world to wander.
