About this game

EA SPORTS FC 26 is the newest entry in EA’s long-running football sim, and this particular release, The World’s Game Edition, is built around a big international tournament mode featuring 48 national teams alongside a stack of Ultimate Team head starts. If you’ve been meaning to jump into FC 26 and want a running start in Ultimate Team rather than grinding packs from zero, this edition exists specifically for that.

How it plays

At the ball-and-pitch level, FC 26 is still built on the club career, player career, and Ultimate Team pillars fans expect, but this year’s update leans hard into international football. The new tournament mode puts you in charge of a national side across 48 teams, and EA has added fresh stadiums to house those matches so it doesn’t feel like the same club venues with different jerseys. Manager Career gets international-themed Live Challenges that throw scenario-based objectives at you throughout a season, and Player Career adds international ICONs and Heroes to unlock and play alongside. On the gameplay side, EA says the on-pitch experience has been reworked based on community feedback, and there are new Archetypes modeled on real football greats, which should change how certain player types move and play compared to previous entries. Ultimate Team, meanwhile, gets new Live Events and Tournament modes plus a refreshed Rivals and Champs structure, and the whole thing runs on match data from the world’s top leagues powering more than 20,000 real players. This edition specifically layers in a big Ultimate Team boost on day one: Season Points, a Gold Starting XI pack loaded with untradeable Rare Gold players, and three Player Picks pulled from FUT campaigns, including a shot at Elite Campaign players, ICONs or Heroes, and International TOTS cards. Worth flagging that Ultimate Team still runs on optional purchases of virtual currency, including randomized items, so how you feel about that system matters here.

Who it’s for

This is an easy recommendation if you’re already an FC or FIFA regular who plays Ultimate Team seriously, since the bonus packs and player picks save you real grinding time and give your squad a head start. It’s also a good pick if international football specifically excites you, since the tournament mode and the international Career content are the headline additions this year. If you mostly play offline career modes and don’t touch Ultimate Team, the Edition’s extra content won’t mean much to you, and you’d be paying for packs you’ll never open. And if microtransactions in sports games bother you on principle, nothing about this edition changes that calculus.

Is it worth it?

For the Ultimate Team crowd, the value math is straightforward: the bundled Season Points and player picks are things you’d otherwise have to earn or buy separately, so getting them folded into the purchase is a genuine head start rather than a gimmick. For everyone else, you’re really just buying FC 26 with extras you may not use, so the appeal narrows to how much you care about the international content and the on-pitch changes this year. It’s the kind of release that’s easy to justify picking up during a sale rather than at full price, especially if you’re on the fence about whether the FUT additions are enough to pull you back in.
