About this game

DuckTales: Remastered takes the notoriously tough NES platformer from 1989 and rebuilds it from the ground up with hand-drawn art, full voice acting, and painted backdrops pulled straight from the original cartoon’s look. WayForward handled the makeover, and Capcom published it, which matters because both studios have a track record with exactly this kind of project: taking something beloved and slightly rough around the edges and polishing it without losing what made it work in the first place.

How it plays

You’re controlling Scrooge McDuck, pogo-jumping off his cane across a handful of globe-trotting stages as he chases down five legendary treasures, with Huey, Dewey, and Louie along for the ride. The pogo jump is still the signature move here, it’s how you attack enemies, bounce over hazards, and reach ledges, and the level design leans on that mechanic constantly. The team kept the original’s structure and pacing intact while smoothing out some of the friction points that made the NES version feel unfair at times, so the bones of that classic run-and-bounce platforming are still there, just easier to parse and control on modern hardware.

Who it’s for

This one’s an easy recommendation for anyone who grew up with the cartoon or the original game and wants to see it done justice rather than just ported with a fresh coat of paint. Platformer fans who like tight, stage-based level design will find a lot to like too, even without any nostalgia attached. If you’re after something sprawling or systems-heavy, this isn’t that. It’s a focused, old-school action-platformer, and if that genre doesn’t do much for you on its own, the Disney branding alone probably won’t change your mind.

Is it worth it?

For what it is, a lovingly remade classic platformer with a manageable scope, it holds up well against most games in the genre. It’s not going to eat up dozens of hours, but it isn’t trying to, and that focus is part of the appeal. This is squarely the kind of game worth picking up when it’s discounted rather than paying full price on a whim, since its charm is really about the craft of the remaster and the strength of a tight platforming loop rather than volume of content. Catch it on sale and it’s a pretty easy yes for platformer fans or anyone with a soft spot for the source material.
