About this game

Black Myth: Wukong is Game Science’s take on Journey to the West, one of the most adapted stories in Chinese literature, and it turns that myth into a hard-hitting action RPG built around a single hero with a staff and a talent for shapeshifting. The Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the full game with a set of cosmetic and audio extras: the Bronzecloud Staff weapon, a full Folk Opera armor set (mask, armor, bracers, and buskins), a Wind Chimes curio, and a selected digital soundtrack you can listen to through the game’s own Music Library. None of it changes how the game plays, but it’s a nice head start for anyone who already knows they want the whole package.

How it plays

You take on the role of the Destined One, wielding staff techniques as your main tool while layering in spells, transformations, and other abilities you pick up along the way. Combat leans on timing and adaptability rather than button-mashing, since the game pushes you to mix offense, defense, and magic on the fly against a rogues’ gallery of mythological foes, each with their own attack patterns to learn. Outside of fights, you’re moving through a series of distinct, myth-inspired regions, each with its own look and its own stories tucked into the environment and side characters. The deluxe extras (the staff skin, the Folk Opera gear, the wind chimes) are claimed early via the Trailblazer’s Gift menu at a Keeper’s Shrine, so you don’t have to hunt for them.

Who it’s for

If you like action games that reward pattern recognition and punish carelessness, and you have any curiosity about Chinese mythology told with real craft instead of a Western reskin, this is squarely for you. Fans of character-action combat who enjoy fighting distinct, larger-than-life bosses will find a lot to sink into here. It’s less of a fit if you’re looking for something breezy or forgiving. This isn’t a game built for casual button-mashing, and if punishing combat systems tend to frustrate more than hook you, it’s worth going in with clear eyes about that.

Is it worth it?

For players who are already sold on the genre, this is the kind of release that’s worth owning outright, and the Deluxe Edition mostly makes sense if the extra gear, staff skin, and soundtrack genuinely appeal to you rather than feeling like padding. If you’d be just as happy with the base game and don’t care about cosmetic variety or the curated soundtrack, there’s no shame in skipping the upgrade and putting that toward something else. Either way, this is a well-regarded action RPG with a distinct identity, and it’s exactly the sort of game worth grabbing when a sale brings the price down, especially if you’ve been circling it since launch.
