About this game
RAKHEM drops you into an underground world as a small masked adventurer chasing treasure through randomly generated corridors, and it does that classic action platformer roguelite thing where every run gives you a fresh layout, fresh enemy picks, and a real chance you’ll get greedy and pay for it. Rakhem Games built this as a solo-developed style indie project, and it wears that scrappy, focused identity well: one clear loop, refined instead of padded out with filler systems.
How it plays
The hook here is that you’re not just reacting to whatever the game throws at you, you’re choosing it. As each area unfolds, you pick which enemies show up next, which turns every mistake into something you can only blame on yourself. Leveling up hands you upgrade choices too, things like a magnet for easier item pickup or a charge jump that changes how you move through a level, so runs start to feel different depending on what you grab and when. Beyond the standard levels and bosses, there’s an endless mode for players who want to see how far a build can carry them, and a tougher tier 2 version of levels once you’re ready to test yourself against harder patterns. Outfits unlock through in-game achievements, permanent upgrades carry over between runs to soften the sting of a bad death, and a bestiary fills in lore on the creatures you’re fighting. There’s also a shopkeeper character, Gooby, who gives the whole underworld a bit of personality between runs.
Who it’s for
If you like roguelites where build choices and risk management matter more than twitch reflexes alone, this is squarely aimed at you, especially since the enemy selection mechanic puts a strategic layer on top of the usual platforming challenge. Fans of run-based games with permanent progression will appreciate having something to work toward across attempts instead of starting from zero every time. It’s also a good fit if you like scaling difficulty that keeps climbing well past what a casual player needs, since the endless mode exists specifically for people chasing that ceiling. On the other hand, if you want a tightly scripted campaign with a fixed story arc, or you’re not into repeating runs through procedurally generated maps, this probably isn’t going to click for you.
Is it worth it?
For the kind of player who enjoys action roguelites with platforming at their core, RAKHEM looks like a reasonable amount of content for what it is: multiple levels and bosses, an endless mode, collectible outfits, and permanent upgrades all give you reasons to keep coming back after your first few runs. It’s not a massive, sprawling game, and it doesn’t need to be, the loop of picking your own enemies and building toward stronger runs is the whole point. As an indie title from a small studio, it’s the type of game that rewards patience if you catch it discounted, so keeping an eye on it for a sale is a sensible way to pick it up without overthinking the decision.
