About this game
Orbital Bullet takes the twin-stick shooter idea and bends it into a circle, literally. Instead of running left to right across flat ground, you’re wrapped around cylindrical planets where gravity holds you to the surface no matter which way you’re facing, and every bullet you fire arcs along that same curve. It’s a pixel-art rogue-lite from SmokeStab that leans hard into permadeath runs, procedural levels, and a gun collection big enough that you’ll still be finding new toys well after your first few deaths.
How it plays
Each run drops you onto a procedurally generated planet that you fight your way around, gunning down enemies and bosses while picking up weapons, crafting materials, and body modifications along the way. The 360-degree movement changes how you think about combat: enemies can flank you from behind because “behind” is just further along the same loop you’re standing on, and sniping something on the far side of the curve takes some getting used to. Death is permanent within a run, but it feeds back into a meta-progression system where currency earned gets spent on permanent upgrades like extra shield capacity or a bigger healing reserve. There’s also a dynamic skill tree that reshuffles between attempts, a combo system that rewards aggressive, uninterrupted play with better loot and experience, and multiple classes with their own builds and playstyles. With dozens of guns and perks in rotation, no two runs are quite the same.
Who it’s for
If you like rogue-lites that ask you to learn a system rather than just grind stat upgrades, this is worth your attention. The genre crowd that grew up on twin-stick shooters and wants a genuinely new spatial gimmick will get the most out of it, and the class variety gives it some replay legs. It’s less suited to players who bounce off permadeath structures or who find “one more run” loops exhausting rather than addictive. If precise platforming combined with curved-trajectory aiming sounds like a headache instead of a fun puzzle, this probably isn’t your game. It’s also a fairly demanding action title reflex-wise, so if you want something more relaxed, look elsewhere.
Is it worth it?
For rogue-lite fans, this is the kind of game that earns its price through sheer mechanical novelty. Plenty of games in this genre lean on familiar loops with a new coat of paint; Orbital Bullet’s circular movement and gunplay actually change how you approach every encounter, and that alone makes it stand out in a crowded field. It’s a great pickup when it’s discounted, since rogue-lites tend to reward the kind of long-term, repeated play that a sale price makes easier to justify. If you’re on the fence, it’s a safer bet during a sale than at full price, simply because you’ll want time to adjust to the curved aiming before deciding how much you love it.
