About this game

蝶々反乱 (Butterfly Rebellion) is a compact, high-intensity score-attack game where you play something like an avenging force of nature, firing horn-shaped projectiles to strip a human-built environment back down to green. There’s no story to follow and no long campaign to grind through. You get a clock, a map, and one job: push your Greening Rate as high as it’ll go before time runs out.

How it plays

Each run gives you 180 seconds. You fire your horns at the people and obstacles occupying the map, and every one you clear back a patch of nature adds to your Greening Rate, which functions as your score. The map fills with waves of targets, and the game leans on you to think about pacing rather than just react. Do you stop to grab items the moment they appear, or push forward and come back for them later? Do you engage a wave the instant it spawns, or let it build so you can clear it more efficiently? Those decisions compound over three minutes, and the developer is upfront that reflexes alone won’t carry you, how you sequence your actions is what actually separates a mediocre run from a leaderboard one. Finishing in the top ranks puts your run on a leaderboard, giving the whole thing a light competitive pull even though there’s no multiplayer involved. Controller support is included if you’d rather not run this off mouse and keyboard.

Who it’s for

This is built for people who like the shape of arcade high-score chasing: tight time limits, a single clear objective, and the itch to shave a few more percentage points off your best run. If you enjoy games you can drop into for a few rounds on a break, or you like optimizing a short loop until you’ve found the “correct” way to open a run, this fits nicely. It’s also worth a look if you’re curious about game jam projects, since it started life as a two-day Sapporo Game Camp 2025 build and has been refined since. If you want a long campaign, a deep skill tree, or a game world to get lost in, this isn’t that, it’s a small, focused toy, not an expansive experience, and it’s more fun if you go in expecting that.

Is it worth it?

For what it is, a tight score-attack game born from a jam and polished afterward, the value case comes down to how much you enjoy the loop itself rather than how much content there is to unlock. If 180-second runs where you’re constantly reassessing your route and timing sound appealing, you’ll get a lot of replay value out of something this small, since the whole point is chasing a better run, not consuming new content. It’s the kind of game that’s easy to recommend picking up when it’s discounted, since a low-commitment arcade experience like this doesn’t need a big price tag to earn its spot in your library. If you’re on the fence, this is squarely a “grab it on sale and see if it clicks” title rather than a full-price impulse buy.
