About this game

Reina is a Japanese-developed RPG from neronsoft that wraps a familiar dungeon-crawling framework around a story about pride, defiance, and what happens when someone insists on doing things the hard way. The setup is simple enough: a princess refuses an escort she didn’t ask for, and the knight assigned to protect her decides to let her figure out the world on her own terms instead. That small, stubborn conflict between two characters is really the hook, more than any twist in the dungeon design.

How it plays

The loop is classic RPG structure: push through dungeons, fight monsters, gain strength, and move the story forward one cleared area at a time. Along the way you pick up seven new characters, each built around their own class, so party composition becomes part of the planning rather than an afterthought. Difficulty settings change how tough the bosses hit, which gives the game some flexibility for players who want a straightforward story run versus those who want to actually sweat during encounters. Once you’ve seen the story through, New Game Plus lets you restart while keeping your progress and stats, which is aimed squarely at players who want to replay with a stronger party from the outset rather than starting from zero again.

Who it’s for

This is built for people who already like turn-based or dungeon-crawling RPGs and don’t need a huge mechanical twist to stay engaged, just a decent character roster and a story with some tension in it. If you enjoy character-driven Japanese RPGs where the relationships matter as much as the combat math, the setup here should click. If you’re after a sprawling open world, deep crafting systems, or a combat system with a lot of moving parts, this probably isn’t reaching for that ambition, and you should look elsewhere.

Is it worth it?

For the audience that already knows this is their kind of game, the value proposition is reasonable: a full story campaign, seven characters to build around, adjustable difficulty for replay variety, and a New Game Plus mode that gives the completed run some extra mileage. It’s not a game that’s trying to reinvent the genre, so going in expecting a niche, focused RPG rather than a landmark release will set your expectations correctly. This is exactly the kind of title that makes more sense picked up during a sale than at full price, since its appeal is fairly specific rather than universal, and a discount removes any hesitation about whether it’s worth the gamble for newcomers to neronsoft’s catalog.
