About this game

Dead Island Definitive Collection is the cleaned-up rerelease of Techland’s original island survival duology, bundling Dead Island and its sequel Dead Island: Riptide together with their previously released add-on content. The pitch is simple: a tropical resort has gone to hell, the dead are walking, and you’re one of a handful of survivors who turns whatever they can find into a weapon. The hook has always been the combat, not the setting. Chopping through a horde with a busted machete or a nail-studded bat feels weighty in a way a lot of zombie games never bothered to nail down, and that’s still the reason people come back to this one.

How it plays

You explore a sprawling open world built around scavenging, crafting, and beating undead apart in melee combat that rewards aiming for limbs and heads rather than just mashing an attack button. Guns exist, but ammo is scarce enough that they stay a backup plan instead of the main event. The story missions push you across the island and its later, swampier sequel setting, and the whole thing is built to be played with up to three other people in co-op, since Dead Island was one of the earlier big titles to make four-player drop-in survival its whole identity. This Definitive edition doesn’t change any of that design, it just reworks the visuals: sharper models, a 1080p target, and a lighting overhaul meant to make the game look like it belongs on more modern hardware.
