About this game

Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is Capcom’s remake of one of the most influential horror games ever made, bundled here with everything the studio added after launch. Leon S. Kennedy, six years removed from the Raccoon City outbreak, gets sent into a remote European village to find the president’s kidnapped daughter, and what he finds there is a lot worse than a simple rescue mission. This Gold package folds in the Separate Ways campaign, which lets you play through a parallel version of the story as Ada Wong, plus an Extra DLC Pack of costumes, filters, and bonus weapons. If you never played the original or the base remake, this is the complete version to start with.

How it plays

The core of the game is third-person survival horror with a heavy action lean: you’re managing ammo, herbs, and inventory space while fighting through villagers, cult members, and worse, using a mix of guns, knives, and environmental tricks. The remake rebuilt the original’s over-the-shoulder shooting with modern movement and combat systems and a reworked story that fills in gaps the 2005 version left open. Separate Ways gives that same world a second read, following Ada Wong on her own parallel mission to retrieve the Amber, so you see decisions and events from an angle Leon never gets. The Extra DLC Pack doesn’t change the structure of the game so much as season it, adding alternate outfits for Leon and Ashley, a couple of stronger weapons, a soundtrack swap, and an expanded treasure map for players who like squeezing more value out of exploration.

This is a good fit for anyone who likes horror with teeth but doesn’t want pure survival-horror stinginess.
