A Plague Tale: Innocence puts you in charge of two kids trying to survive the Hundred Years’ War, plague-era France, and a religious order that wants them dead, all at once. You play as Amicia, a teenager suddenly responsible for her younger brother Hugo, a boy with a mysterious illness that makes him a target. The pitch isn’t “stealth game with rats in it.” It’s a story about an older sister who never asked for this responsibility, forced to grow up fast while the world around her falls apart. That relationship is the reason people remember this game.

How it plays

You’re mostly avoiding fights rather than winning them. Amicia has a sling and a handful of alchemical tricks, but she’s not an action hero, she’s a kid with a slingshot against armored soldiers, so sneaking past patrols and using the environment matters more than direct confrontation. The rats are the other half of the equation: they swarm in numbers that can overwhelm anyone caught in the open, and fire is often your only real leverage against them. A lot of the tension comes from threading a path between soldiers who will kill you and rat swarms that will do the same, using light, sound, and timing to slip through both.
