About this game

Middle-earth: The Shadow Bundle packages two full games from one of the more interesting stretches in licensed game history: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Shadow of War, both from Monolith Productions. If you’ve heard people talk about a Tolkien game where orc captains remember beating you and hold a grudge, this is the bundle that started that idea and then built an entire sequel around it. It’s a chance to play through both stories back to back, with the expansion content for the second game folded in rather than sold separately.

How it plays

Both games put you in Mordor as a ranger with a mysterious connection to a wraith, hunting your way up the orc chain of command with stealth, swordplay, and ranged attacks that all feed into the same open-world structure. The hook is the Nemesis System: the orcs who kill you or get killed by you stick around, get promoted, remember your fights, and start showing up with grudges, scars, and their own quirks. Shadow of War expands that into full siege warfare, letting you recruit and command orc followers, storm and hold Fortresses, and eventually build out your own army to throw at Sauron’s forces. The bundle also includes the story and Nemesis expansions for Shadow of War, which add extra playable characters, new orc tribes, and additional missions layered onto that same core loop.

Who it’s for

This is a great fit if you like open-world action games with a strong personal story built out of emergent moments, the kind of thing where you end up with an actual rival because of how a fight played out rather than because a script told you to. Fans of Tolkien’s world will get plenty of lore-driven missions, though both games take real creative liberties rather than sticking close to the books. If your interest in Middle-earth strictly means Frodo and the Fellowship, know that these games live in their own corner of the timeline. And if endless combat encounters and gear grinding wear you down fast, the back half of Shadow of War in particular leans hard into systems that reward sticking with it.

Is it worth it?

Getting two full campaigns, including a sequel with its expansion content already built in, is a solid amount of game for one purchase. Shadow of Mordor holds up as a tight, well-paced action game on its own, and Shadow of War is the sprawling, more ambitious follow-up, so together they cover a lot of ground without feeling repetitive. This is exactly the kind of bundle worth grabbing when it’s discounted rather than paying full price for each piece separately, since you’re getting the complete arc of both games in one purchase.
