About this game

Zomborg is a mercenary-shooter with the year-2000 dread turned up: a quarantine zone, a missing medical team, and a private military crew sent in to grab data nobody else made it out with. It’s a zombie survival game that leans on numbers and prep as much as reflexes, which is the part that sets it apart from the usual arcade zombie shooter.

How it plays

You’re dropped into a quarantine zone to recover research and figure out what’s crawling around out there, and the game backs that setup with a fairly deep loot-and-loadout loop. You build up your character, pick from ten weapon types, and spend the money you earn in the field on better gear, so runs feed into each other instead of resetting you to zero every time. The other half of the loop is squad management: you choose an AI teammate suited to how you actually want to fight, whether that’s someone who tanks hits while you flank or someone who can lay down cover fire while you loot. And the game isn’t shy about numbers, it can throw up to a hundred infected onto the screen at once, so a lot of the tension comes from managing chokepoints and ammo rather than just aiming well.

Who it’s for

This one’s for players who like their zombie games a little methodical: picking gear, choosing a partner that complements your playstyle, and thinking about crowd control before you round a corner. If you enjoy the prep-then-execute rhythm of survival shooters, or you just want a horde game where the horde is genuinely large, there’s something here for you. If you’re after tight, story-driven horror pacing or a polished AAA production, this is clearly a smaller indie effort and you should temper expectations on that front. Fans of scrappy, systems-first indie shooters will get more mileage out of it than people looking for cinematic scares.
