About this game

The Labyrinth on Burrow Hill is the kind of setup that sounds simple until you sit with it: your father dies, you go back to the house you grew up in, and the house is not the house anymore. It’s become something enormous and deliberate, built to protect whatever’s hidden at its center. Jonny Haynes made this one solo, and it plays like a single-author puzzle box, tight, personal, and unwilling to hold your hand.

How it plays

You move through the structure one room at a time, eleven of them total, and each one is its own sealed problem. Find the key, unlock the next stretch of the labyrinth, repeat, all the way toward whatever’s waiting in the middle. There’s no combat and no timer pushing you along. The whole thing runs on observation: reading the architecture, cross-referencing clues between rooms, and piecing together logic that the game trusts you to hold onto without a quest marker reminding you. It’s built in the mold of an escape room, which means the pacing is slow by design. You’re meant to stop, examine, and think before you touch anything.

Who it’s for

If you like escape rooms or point-and-click puzzle games where the reward is a genuine “oh, of course” moment, this is squarely built for you. It’s also a solid pick for playing with someone else in the room, since talking through a puzzle out loud is half the fun and the game seems to know that, given how naturally it lends itself to note-taking with an actual pen and paper. On the other hand, if you want action, exploration for its own sake, or a story that moves quickly, you’ll likely find the pace frustrating. This isn’t a game you rush, and trying to will just make you miss what you need to see.

Is it worth it?

For puzzle fans, games like this tend to earn their keep through density rather than length. Eleven distinct rooms each built around their own idea is a reasonable amount of content for the genre, and the appeal here is quality of design over sheer runtime. It’s not a game you’ll marathon in one sitting unless you’re deep in the puzzle-solving mindset, and it’s better paced as something you chip away at over a few evenings, especially with a friend. As with most tightly scoped indie puzzle games, it’s a comfortable one to pick up when it’s discounted, since you’re paying for a focused experience rather than a sprawling one, and that kind of game holds up fine whether you grab it at launch price or wait for it to dip.
