About this game

SPACECOM is a strategy game that strips space warfare down to something closer to a logic puzzle than a battle sim. There are no units to micromanage in real time, no resources to farm, no base to build up brick by brick. Instead you’re moving fleets across a starmap, reading supply lines, and trying to out-think an opponent who’s doing the exact same thing to you. If you’ve ever wished 4X or RTS games would just get to the interesting part, the actual decision-making, this is that game distilled.

How it plays

You command a fleet and fight for control of a starmap against AI or human opponents, and the whole thing hinges on planning rather than reflexes. There’s no luck involved: every fight resolves on logic, so a loss means you misjudged the board, not that the dice went against you. Managing supply routes and picking the right maneuver at the right moment matters more than clicking fast, and the game leans on that idea hard enough to build its whole identity around it. You can play through a single-player campaign built around tactical puzzles, test builds and strategies against the AI in skirmish mode, or take the format online against multiple opponents at once on the same map. The presentation matches the design philosophy: sparse, military-inspired visuals and a sound design meant to keep your head in strategy mode rather than distract you with spectacle.

Who it’s for

This is a game for people who like their strategy cerebral. If you enjoy chess, or you’re the type who replays a lost match in your head trying to spot the exact turn you went wrong, SPACECOM is speaking your language. It also works well as an entry point for players who find bigger 4X titles intimidating, since the mechanics stay lean even as the thinking required stays deep. On the other hand, if you want big battles with lots of visual feedback, unit variety, or the dopamine hit of managing a sprawling empire, this will feel thin. It’s also not built for anyone chasing fast-paced action; a slow, patient mind is the actual skill being tested here.

Is it worth it?

For the audience it’s aimed at, this is a solid pickup, especially since it’s the kind of tightly focused, mechanically simple game that doesn’t lose much by sitting in a backlog for a while. It’s not a game you’ll sink hundreds of hours into unless multiplayer against real opponents grabs you, but the campaign and skirmish modes give you a clear, self-contained experience without padding. Because it’s a smaller-scope indie title rather than a sprawling AAA strategy game, it’s the sort of thing that makes a lot more sense to grab during a sale than at full price, particularly if you’re just curious whether minimalist, no-luck strategy design is for you.
