About this game

Ready or Not drops you into the boots of a SWAT commander in the fictional city of Los Sueños, a place so corrupt and violent that regular policing has basically stopped working. Developer VOID Interactive built this one as a tactical shooter in the vein of the old SWAT games, and the pitch is simple: every door you open, every room you clear, every second you hesitate can get someone killed, including yourself. It’s a slow, tense, deliberate kind of shooter, and that’s exactly the point.

How it plays

You lead a team through missions built around real-world scenarios, things like barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and raids on criminal operations. Before you breach anything, you’re picking gear and weapons that actually behave like their real counterparts, and thinking about how you want to approach the objective rather than just running in guns blazing. The environments react to what you do to them: rounds punch through drywall and furniture, so cover isn’t always cover, and knowing that changes how you move through a space. Rooms can hold armed threats, civilians, or both, and you often don’t know which until you’re already inside. That uncertainty is the whole loop. Plan your entry, breach, assess in a split second, and live with whatever happens next.

Who it’s for

This is a game for people who like their shooters methodical rather than fast. If you’ve got a soft spot for older tactical titles and enjoy the mental load of clearing a building room by room, checking corners, and actually reading a scene before you act, this will scratch that itch hard. It also rewards squad play, so it’s a good pick if you’ve got a couple friends who like coordinating instead of sprinting off alone. If you want twitchy, run-and-gun combat with instant respawns and forgiving pacing, this isn’t that game, and it’ll probably frustrate you. It asks for patience and a willingness to fail a mission because you rushed a doorway.

Is it worth it?

For the tactical shooter crowd, this is the kind of game that’s easy to sink real hours into, especially with friends, since the tension of a breach hits differently when real people are making the calls with you. It’s a niche experience by design, so if slow-burn, high-stakes room clearing doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, no amount of discount changes that. But if the description above got your attention, it’s a solid one to grab when it’s on sale rather than pay full price upfront, since it lets you find out whether the pacing clicks for you without much risk.
