About this game
Joe Danger is Hello Games before Hello Games became the “No Man’s Sky studio.” It’s a 2D stunt-biker platformer built around a simple, ridiculous premise: you’re a washed-up daredevil clawing his way back to fame by jumping, boosting, and crashing through increasingly absurd obstacle courses. There’s no grit or realism here, just bright colors, exaggerated physics, and the kind of pure arcade joy that doesn’t need a backstory to justify a wheelie over a shark tank.
How it plays
At the heart of it is a side-scrolling ride where timing and rhythm matter more than raw reflexes. You lean into ramps, chain boosts, and thread Joe through gauntlets of school buses, mousetraps, and spike pits across more than a hundred levels. Scoring well means stacking combos and nailing coin runs, not just reaching the finish line, and the game leans hard into short races against rival riders where a single mistimed jump costs you the lead. For players who want more than the main campaign, there’s a level editor for building your own courses and pulling down community creations, plus a separate set of tougher, more puzzle-like challenges for people who’ve cleared the easy stuff and want something meaner. The PC version adds proper mouse and keyboard controls and Big Picture support, so it’s equally happy as a couch game or a desk game.
Who it’s for
This is a great fit if you like games that reward precision without demanding perfection, think Trials or Excitebike but friendlier and funnier. Fans of tight scoring systems, leaderboard chasing, and short bite-sized levels will find a lot to like, especially with ghost data letting you race other players’ runs. It’s also a solid pick if you want something to hand to a less experienced player since the difficulty ramps gently before the Pro Medals and Laboratory stuff gets serious. If you need a story to stay engaged, or you bounce off anything with a cartoonish, arcade sensibility, this one’s probably not going to click. Same goes if you’re after a long single campaign rather than a pile of short, replayable stages.
Is it worth it?
For what it is, a tightly designed arcade platformer with a built-in level editor and genuine replay value through scoring and community content, it holds up well against games costing a lot more. It’s not a game you sit down with for a single long story arc; it’s one you dip into for twenty minutes at a time, chase a medal, then come back later. That kind of structure ages nicely, and the Steam Workshop support means there’s always something new to try even years after release. If it shows up in a Fanatical sale, it’s an easy one to grab, especially for anyone who enjoys stunt or trick-based games and hasn’t already burned out on the genre.
