About this game
HR Department of Love is an adult visual novel style management game where you play a corporate HR manager whose actual job is inventing reasons to pull employees into your office. The joke is right there in the setup: your company’s dress code is absurd and getting weirder by the line item, and it’s on you to “enforce” it however you see fit. It’s a game that leans fully into its premise and doesn’t pretend to be anything else, which honestly makes it easier to judge than most.
How it plays
Coworkers line up outside your office one at a time, and you go through their file against the company’s rulebook, deciding whether they’re in violation. Since the rules cover things like hair length and undergarments, checking compliance means physically inspecting them, and the game hands you a full toolkit of ways to do that. Once you’re satisfied with your ruling, you send them off and call in the next case. Because every employee is procedurally generated, no two office visits look quite the same: hair, body type, personality quirks, and backstory all shuffle around, so the character you’re grilling on Monday isn’t the one you’ll see on Tuesday. You can flag favorites to bring back later, and the game tracks a running scoreboard of your history with each one. There’s also a light economy layered on top: you earn a salary from your HR duties that you can spend on gifts and items for your coworkers, some of which change their traits over time, and progression eventually opens up new offices with new casts of employees to process.
Who it’s for
This is built for players who want an adult game with some structure to it rather than a straight visual novel. If you like the idea of a repeatable loop with light stat tracking and procedurally varied characters giving each session a different flavor, that’s the appeal here. It’s not for anyone looking for deep systems, a story-driven campaign, or subtlety of any kind. The premise is played for laughs and doesn’t try to be clever about it, so if workplace-satire humor paired with explicit content isn’t your thing, this one isn’t going to win you over.
Is it worth it?
For the niche it’s aiming at, the value comes down to how much you enjoy the core loop, since the procedural generation is doing the heavy lifting to keep runs from feeling repetitive. It’s a lower-commitment kind of game, the sort you dip into rather than sit down with for a long campaign, and that makes it a solid pickup during a sale rather than something you need day one. If it’s discounted and the premise sounds like your speed, it’s a reasonable bet. If the concept doesn’t click for you at all, no price point is going to change that.
