About this game

Dustborn drops you into an alternate-history America where the government controls the truth and your crew controls the bus, and the whole thing hinges on one gimmick that actually works: words as weapons. You’re Pax, running a cross-country package delivery job that turns into a road trip through a country falling apart, with a found family of misfits along for the ride and a government agency on your tail.

How it plays

The structure is a road trip told in stops. You roll from location to location on a tour bus, and each place you pull into has its own slice of story: people to talk to, small jobs to pick up, relationships to manage, and trouble to either talk down or fight through. The talking is the real hook. Your character uses Shouts and Vox, essentially vocal powers, to push back in arguments and combat alike, and you can craft new ones as you go, which gives conversations an actual mechanical stake instead of just branching flavor text. Dialogue choices ripple outward, shifting how your crew members feel about you and each other, so the people riding with you aren’t static set dressing, they’re a system you’re managing the whole trip. And when talking fails, you’re not helpless: expect actual physical confrontations, baseball bat included, mixed in with the social combat.

Who it’s for

This is a good fit if you want your action game to lean heavily on narrative and characters, the kind of player who enjoyed games built around dialogue trees mattering as much as combat encounters. The graphic-novel art style and road-trip pacing reward people who like soaking in atmosphere and side conversations rather than rushing to the next objective. If you’re after fast, mechanically deep combat or a long sprawling open world, this isn’t that. It’s a tighter, story-first experience, and if you find dialogue-heavy adventure games slow or if “manage your crew’s feelings” sounds like a chore rather than a hook, you’ll likely bounce off it.

Is it worth it?

For the audience it’s built for, story-driven adventure fans who want something with a distinct visual identity and a genuinely different take on dialogue as a combat mechanic, this is the kind of game that’s easy to recommend picking up when it’s discounted. It’s not a game you sink hundreds of hours into, it’s a curated single-player trip with a beginning and an end, and that makes it a natural sale pickup rather than a day-one full-price buy unless the premise already has you hooked. If you’ve been meaning to try it, a Fanatical sale is exactly the moment to grab it.
