About this game

Dead by Daylight is the game that basically defined the asymmetrical horror multiplayer genre, and a decade later it’s still the one most people mean when they say “4 versus 1 horror game.” One player takes the role of a Killer hunting in first-person, the other four play Survivors in third-person trying to make it out alive. It’s less a traditional horror game and more a tense social experiment dressed up in fog and gore.

How it plays

Each match drops four Survivors into a Killer’s hunting ground, and the goal is simple to state and hard to pull off: escape before you get caught and sacrificed. The Killer plays with a completely different perspective and toolset than the Survivors, hunting in first-person while trying to track down prey who can see much more of their surroundings. Levels are procedurally generated, so the layout, the spawn points, and the general sense of “where am I and where’s the exit” change every single round, which keeps the map memorization advantage lower than you’d expect from a game this old. The Killer roster pulls from all over horror fiction, from hulking slashers to supernatural entities, and each one plays with its own unique power, so learning a new Killer often means relearning how to hunt entirely. On the Survivor side, the tension comes from the choice between cooperating with strangers or teammates and looking out for yourself when things go sideways. Both roles have their own progression systems with unlockables to tune your playstyle over time.

This is a great fit if you like multiplayer games built on paranoia and mind games rather than reflexes and gunplay.
