Crewsaders is a local multiplayer brawler built entirely around one idea: two teams, two giant robots, and a bunch of friends crammed onto one couch trying not to mess up their side of the machine. It’s the kind of game that only really exists to be played in the same room as other people, which puts it in a fairly specific and increasingly rare category on Steam.

How it plays

Up to six players split into two crews, each one climbing inside a hulking robot and taking charge of different systems to keep it moving, punching, and firing. The twist is that nobody controls the whole robot alone: your team has to split up jobs and actually communicate (or yell across the couch) to keep gears turning while also reading what the other robot is about to do. Matches play out like a joust crossed with a demolition derby, with both sides trying to land hits and shove the enemy machine toward the edge of the arena while an unseen crowd eggs everyone on. Because the controls are split across multiple people instead of one player driving everything, the pacing depends heavily on how well your team coordinates, which is really the whole point.

Who it’s for

This is a party game first and a robot-combat game second. If you’ve got a regular group of friends or family who like couch multiplayer, chaotic co-op, or games that turn into shouting matches over who forgot to watch the left arm, this fits right into that rotation alongside other local-only party titles. It’s built around a controller and clearly designed with groups in mind rather than solo play. If you’re looking for something to play by yourself, or you don’t have people physically nearby to team up with, there’s not much reason to pick this one up. It also isn’t the game to reach for if you want deep systems or a long campaign; the appeal here is short, frantic sessions rather than sustained progression.

Is it worth it?

For the right group, a game like this earns its keep by being the thing you pull out when people come over and want something loud and easy to jump into.
