Anomaly Defenders closes out 11 bit studios’ Anomaly series, and it does something clever with the finale: it flips the whole premise. In the earlier games you played human resistance fighters pushing armored columns through alien-held streets. The core loop will feel familiar if you’ve touched a tower defense game before, but with a wrinkle that keeps you from ever fully relaxing: the attacking human forces can actually damage and destroy your towers, so placing defenses and walking away isn’t an option. You’re expected to keep an eye on the field and step in with support abilities like repairing damaged towers, pushing them into a berserk state, or sacrificing one in a blast that punishes anything nearby.
