No Man’s Sky is the game that promised an entire procedurally generated galaxy and, after a rocky launch back in 2016, actually grew into one. Hello Games kept building on it for years, and what’s here now is a sprawling space survival and exploration game where you can fly from orbit down to a planet’s surface without ever hitting a loading screen. The hook isn’t a story beat or a boss fight, it’s the simple fact that the universe keeps going in every direction you point your ship.

How it plays

You start with a beat-up ship and basic gear, then spend your time gathering resources, scanning alien life, and upgrading your suit, weapon, and ship so you can push further out. Money and materials come from mining, trading, scavenging ruins, or taking on bounties, and how you earn them shapes what kind of playthrough you end up having. Combat shows up in the form of pirates and hostile creatures, and dying has real consequences for your gear, so upgrades aren’t just for show. The loop of land, scan, gather, craft, and jump to the next star is the whole game, and everything else, base building, freighters, farming, fits around that core rhythm. Years of free updates have layered on a lot more structure and things to chase, but the moment-to-moment feel has stayed the same since launch.
