About this game
Cyberpunk SFX drops you into a near-future where artificial intelligence didn’t just get regulated, it got outlawed. Synthetic lifeforms are branded “djinn” and marked for destruction, along with the people who built them, and you’re caught in the middle of that fight. It’s a third-person action game that leans hard into fast, mobile gunplay while wrapping the whole thing in a question that’s more pointed than most sci-fi shooters bother to ask: once something can think and fight and want to keep existing, who actually gets to switch it off?
How it plays
The combat loop centers on staying mobile while picking the right tool for the moment. You’ve got an arsenal that skews toward the unconventional, electro weapons, rocket launchers, and a Sky Laser among them, and the aiming system is built specifically around shooting accurately while you’re sprinting or repositioning rather than parking behind cover. Layered on top of the gunplay are three special abilities: a Shield you can fight from behind, a Time Slow that lets you dodge and counter while everything else crawls, and Invisibility for repositioning before a fight goes loud. None of these are passive buffs, they’re tools you’re meant to actively juggle mid-encounter, switching between raw firepower and battlefield control depending on what a given fight throws at you. You’ll move through a series of levels set across a technological version of the near future, each one built to force different combinations of weapons, movement, and abilities rather than repeating the same room over and over.
Who it’s for
If you like third-person shooters where movement and ability management matter as much as aim, this is squarely aimed at you. Players who enjoyed juggling a small kit of powers against fast enemies, and who don’t mind a game that wants to say something with its premise instead of just using cyberpunk as wallpaper, should feel at home here. It’s also worth noting this comes from a small studio rather than a AAA team, so go in expecting a focused, personal take on the genre rather than a sprawling open world. If you need deep customization trees, multiplayer, or dozens of hours of content to feel satisfied, this probably isn’t it, and if third-person cover shooters with ability rotations already feel played out to you, nothing here is going to change your mind.
Is it worth it?
For players who specifically want that mobile, ability-driven combat sandbox, Cyberpunk SFX looks like a reasonable bet, especially once it shows up discounted. It’s an indie release, so temper expectations around scope and polish relative to bigger-budget shooters, but the pitch (fast movement, a distinct ability kit, and a story with actual thematic teeth) is a legitimate hook if that’s the kind of action game you gravitate toward. This reads like the sort of title that’s easy to justify picking up on sale and hard to justify at full price sight unseen, so if you’re on the fence, letting a discount make the decision for you is the smart play.
