About this game
PEAK drops you and up to three friends on a mysterious island with one job: climb the mountain in the middle of it or stay stranded forever. It’s a co-op climbing game built on the simple, brutal idea that one wrong step can undo an hour of progress, and that the only real tool you have is the people climbing with you. There’s no combat, no loot grind in the traditional sense, just rock, altitude, and the slow creep of bad decisions catching up to you.
How it plays
You and your group scale a mountain split into four distinct biomes, each throwing different environmental hazards at you as you go. Climbing itself is physical and a little chaotic: you boost each other up ledges, string ropes for the people behind you, and plant climbing spikes to turn a sheer face into something survivable. Along the way you’re scavenging food that ranges from fine to actively questionable, and managing an injury system where every setback eats into your stamina, which in turn makes the actual climbing harder. Survival items like energy drinks and the oddly named Anti-Rope give you ways to claw back an advantage when things go wrong. The map itself resets every day, so the mountain you’re climbing this afternoon won’t be the one you’re climbing tomorrow, and you can also just keep re-attempting the same layout until your group finally cracks it.
Who it’s for
This is a game for people who like their co-op with real stakes attached, the kind of session where someone’s mistimed jump becomes a story you tell for weeks. If you enjoy games that reward communication and punish carelessness, and you’ve got a regular group of friends to climb with, PEAK is built for exactly that. Proximity chat and friends-only multiplayer mean it leans hard into the social side, so solo players can technically attempt the mountain alone, but the game clearly wants a party. If you’d rather play something with matchmaking for strangers, or you get frustrated by physics-based platforming where falling is always one bad grab away, this probably isn’t your game.
Is it worth it?
For a group of friends looking for a reason to hop on voice chat together, PEAK earns its keep fast. The daily map rotation gives it a reason to come back beyond a single playthrough, and the badge and cosmetic unlocks give completionists something to chase once the climb itself starts feeling familiar. It’s the kind of game that’s easy to recommend picking up when it’s discounted, especially if you’re buying it for a whole group rather than just yourself, since the value multiplies with every friend who joins the climb. If co-op survival climbing sounds like your thing at all, it’s a safe one to add to the pile next time it’s on sale.
