About this game
Big Walk is a co-op adventure from House House (the studio behind Untitled Goose Game) about wandering an open world with a group of friends and figuring out how to stick together. There’s no combat to speak of and no real antagonist. The whole game is built around the simple, surprisingly rare idea that just being somewhere with your friends, talking, getting lost, and messing around, can carry an entire experience on its own.
How it plays
You and up to eleven other people (or just one other person, if you’d rather keep things intimate) set off through a big open landscape full of puzzles and things to discover. The trick is that voice chat is proximity based, so as your group spreads out, conversations start to fade, echo, or break up entirely. That means half the actual gameplay is logistical: staying close enough to hear each other, relaying information when someone wanders off, and improvising when talking simply isn’t an option anymore. For those moments, you’ve got gestures and body language, plus a pile of physical tools like walkie-talkies, megaphones, flares, whiteboards, and other odd bits and pieces for signaling across distance. It’s less about solving puzzles in the traditional sense and more about solving the puzzle of staying coordinated as a group, while a hand-crafted story pushes you toward an actual ending rather than looping you through busywork forever.
Who it’s for
This is a game for a specific kind of group: people who already like hanging out with each other and don’t need constant objectives to have a good time. If your ideal co-op session involves getting distracted, wandering off to look at something dumb, and bantering more than actually progressing, Big Walk is speaking your language. It’s also a nice fit for mixed groups thanks to crossplay, so you’re not stuck coordinating everyone onto the same platform. On the flip side, if you’re after mechanical depth, combat, or a game you can boot up solo, this isn’t it. Big Walk lives or dies on the company you bring into it, and playing it with strangers or a group that isn’t feeling chatty is going to feel a lot emptier than playing it with friends who are.
Is it worth it?
Because it’s built as a hand-crafted adventure meant to be finished start to finish, Big Walk isn’t the kind of game you sink hundreds of hours into. It’s more of an event: something you carve out an evening or a few sessions for with a specific group of people. That makes it a pretty natural pickup during a sale, especially since the value here scales with how many friends you can rope into it rather than how many hours you personally grind out. If you’ve got a regular co-op crew that’s already run out of things to play together, it’s an easy recommendation. If you’re shopping solo with no one lined up to join you, it’s worth waiting until you’ve got the right people before committing.
