About this free game
Alice VR is a VR-first exploration game that takes the Wonderland characters you already know and drops them into a science-fiction planet where an entire population has vanished. You wake up mid-emergency, forced out of cryo sleep by a ship malfunction, and crash-land with one job: find fuel and get out. That simple goal quickly turns into a mystery about what happened to everyone on the surface, and the game leans hard into its Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland roots while filtering them through cold, futuristic environments instead of a storybook forest.
How it plays
This is a first-person puzzle adventure built around exploration rather than combat. You wander an abandoned world piecing together what went wrong, solving environmental puzzles as you go, with over 60 of them worked into the campaign. The mechanics get a sci-fi twist on classic Wonderland tricks: gravity shifts let you walk up walls and across ceilings, and shrinking or growing devices change how you interact with rooms and obstacles, echoing Alice’s size-changing potions but built as physical puzzle tools. Familiar faces like the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter show up along the way, recontextualized for this setting rather than lifted straight from the book. The story branches toward multiple endings, so the choices you make while investigating actually shape how the planet’s secret resolves. It was built specifically for VR headsets from the ground up, though it also runs on a standard monitor if you don’t have one.
Who it’s for
If you like slower, story-driven exploration games where the puzzle-solving is the point and there’s no combat to break the mood, this fits nicely. VR owners in particular get the most out of it since the gravity-bending and scale puzzles were clearly designed with room-scale and headset immersion in mind. It’s also a good fit if you enjoy fairy tale retellings that get reimagined rather than replayed beat for beat. On the other hand, if you want fast-paced action, tight combat systems, or a game that’s just as satisfying on a flat monitor as in VR, this probably isn’t going to be your favorite. Puzzle fatigue is worth considering too: with a heavy focus on environmental puzzles throughout, it rewards patience over reflexes.
Is it worth grabbing?
For the cost of a library slot, yes, this is worth having around, especially if you own a VR headset and don’t already have many narrative VR titles to reach for. The atmosphere, the electronic soundtrack, and the novelty of walking on walls and ceilings while chasing a Wonderland mystery make it a distinctive experience rather than a generic puzzle box. Even played on a flat screen it holds up as a curious little adventure, though the VR-native design choices suggest that’s where it was always meant to shine. If Wonderland reimaginings or slow-burn sci-fi mysteries are your thing, it’s an easy one to add to the pile and get to eventually.
