Built by 11 bit studios and folded into the Anomaly Bundle on Steam, this 15-level campaign started life on phones before landing on PC, and it asks a simple question that most strategy games never bother with. What if you were the one storming the towers instead of building them?

How it plays

Regular tower defense hands you the high ground: turrets, chokepoints, and waves of enemies marching toward you. Here that’s reversed. You command an armored squad pushing through hostile territory, and the towers belong to the alien side you’re trying to take down. Success depends on reading the battlefield before you commit, picking a route through the defenses, and deciding which units to bring along for the fight ahead. Special weapons and power-ups let you punch through resistance directly, while stealthier options let you slip certain threats entirely if you’d rather avoid a fight you don’t need. Resources you gather along the way go toward new units and upgrades, so each level nudges you toward smarter loadouts rather than just bigger ones. The campaign also includes separate Squad Assault modes, giving you more scenarios to apply that same push-forward thinking outside the main story missions.

Who it’s for

This one’s aimed squarely at people who already like tower defense but have grown a little tired of sitting still. If the idea of planning a route through enemy fire, swapping tactics on the fly, and managing a squad’s resources sounds appealing, this scratches that itch nicely. It also suits players who enjoy strategy games with a lighter time commitment. Fifteen levels is a focused campaign, not a sprawling one. If you’re after deep base-building, sprawling tech trees, or a long single-player strategy epic, this won’t be it. And if tower defense in any direction just isn’t your genre, nothing here is going to convert you.

Is it worth grabbing?

For fans of the original Anomaly Warzone Earth, this is straightforward additional content built around a formula that already worked, and there’s real value in extra levels for a mechanic you already enjoy. For newcomers, it’s a low-risk way to see what tower offense feels like without committing to a huge time investment. It’s not going to redefine strategy gaming, but it does its one clever idea competently, and that idea (attacking instead of defending) still feels fresh compared to how crowded the genre usually is. Worth adding to your library if you’ve got any fondness for tactical, route-planning strategy games, especially since it costs you nothing but a bit of hard drive space and an afternoon or two.
