About this game
BURIED BELOW is a first-person survival horror adventure from Aura Studios built around one bad night that keeps replaying in your head. You start with a camping trip, a storm, and a girlfriend who disappears into the woods near an old abandoned mine. This time, instead of just watching the memory play out, you’re the one walking into it, which means you’re also the one who has to decide how far you’re willing to go to get her back. It’s a small, focused horror game with a clear emotional hook rather than a sprawling open-world pitch, and that focus is exactly what makes it interesting.
How it plays
The game opens with an interactive intro that sets up the relationship and the trip before things go wrong, which is a nice touch since it gives the disappearance some weight instead of just throwing you into a cave. Once your girlfriend vanishes, you get a lead from a clerk about the mine and head out into a forest you can freely explore, using a map to keep your bearings rather than following invisible rails. Getting into the mine itself is gated by environmental puzzles, so you’ll be picking up and combining items correctly before you can push forward. The real tension kicks in underground: you’re managing a lighter’s fuel as your only real light source while something is down there with you, and your main tools against it are stealth, hiding, and distraction rather than any kind of weapon. That combination of resource management and low-tech evasion is the backbone of the whole experience.
Who it’s for
If you like horror games that lean on atmosphere and dread over jump-scare spam or combat, this is squarely aimed at you. Fans of exploration-driven horror who don’t mind a slower pace, actual puzzle-solving, and the constant low hum of “am I going to run out of light” will feel right at home. It also seems like a good fit for anyone who enjoys a tighter, story-first horror game over a long survival grind. On the other hand, if you want gunplay, a big skill tree, or a game you can breeze through without paying attention to your surroundings, this probably isn’t going to scratch that itch. People who get frustrated by trial-and-error puzzle design or limited-resource tension should also go in with the right expectations.
Is it worth it?
For horror fans, a well-realized atmospheric experience with a personal story hook, a roamable forest, and a genuinely tense mine sequence is the kind of thing that’s easy to recommend, especially if you’re the type who replays horror games just to catch details you missed the first time. It’s an indie title, so go in expecting a focused, single-throughline experience rather than a massive time sink, and judge it on that basis rather than comparing it to a big-budget survival horror epic. As with most narrow, atmosphere-driven indie horror games, it’s the kind of title that’s worth grabbing when it’s discounted, since you’re paying for a specific mood and a specific story rather than dozens of hours of content.
