About this game
How it plays
Gallipoli is BlackMill Games’ follow-up to Verdun, Tannenberg, and Isonzo, moving the studio’s take on WW1 combat to the Ottoman theater. The hook is simple: you’re not a super soldier, you’re one rifle in a 25-man wave, and it plays that way. It’s a hardcore, one-shot-one-kill shooter built around big objective battles rather than kill-death ratios, so surviving a firefight has as much to do with cover and positioning as it does with aim.
You pick a side, British or Ottoman Empire, and a role out of ten specialized classes, then head into set-piece engagements drawn from the actual campaign: the Anzac Cove landings, the assault on Cape Helles from the SS River Clyde, fighting through Kut Al Amara in Mesopotamia. Each class has a job. Officers organize the push, machine gunners and snipers hold lines, stretcher bearers keep the squad alive. The weapon handling is deliberately heavy and unhurried, reloads take real time, and your character’s condition affects how steady you are, which pushes you toward playing cautiously and sticking with your squad instead of running off solo.
Who it’s for
This is a game for people who already like realistic multiplayer shooters and don’t mind losing a lot while they learn a map. If you’ve played Verdun, Tannenberg, or Isonzo, you know roughly what you’re getting: methodical gunplay, squad coordination that actually matters, and history-driven scenarios instead of generic arena maps. Fans of WW1 history specifically will get extra mileage out of the setting, since the Gallipoli campaign and the Mesopotamian front don’t get nearly as much attention in games as the Western Front does.
If you want fast respawns, flashy movement, or a forgiving learning curve, look elsewhere. This is not a game where you can carry a match through mechanical skill alone, and one-shot-kill combat means a lot of your deaths will feel like they came out of nowhere. Casual shooter fans and anyone allergic to teamwork-dependent multiplayer should probably skip it.
Is it worth it?
For the audience it’s built for, this is the kind of game that earns its keep through hours logged rather than a flashy first impression. Multiplayer-only WW1 shooters live or die on whether people stick around to fill out those 25v25 battles, so the value here scales with how active the community stays over time. If you’re already sold on BlackMill’s style from their earlier games, this is an easy pickup. If you’re new to the studio and unsure whether the pacing and gunplay click for you, it’s a reasonable one to wait on and grab during a sale rather than paying full price to find out.
